Different materials are used for prostheses in dental medicine, though titanium is the most frequent. In the present report, several commercial dental implants and their potential capacity to integrate to bone tissues have been analysed by means of cytotoxicity, genotoxicity and cytocompatibility techniques. Cultures from osteosarcoma-derived UMR 106 cell line were used for bioassays since they showed several osteoblast properties. Magnesium, a promising biodegradable metal, has been reported in several studies to increase bone formation. Although there is some information regarding the concentrations of magnesium ions that affect bone remodeling at a cellular level, little is known about the effect of magnesium ions on cell gap junctions. In vitro culture and characterization of alveolar bone osteoblasts isolated from type 2 diabetics BJMBR

In order to understand the mechanisms of poor osseointegration following dental implants in type 2 diabetics, it is important to study the biological properties of alveolar bone osteoblasts isolated from these patients. We collected alveolar bone chips under aseptic conditions and cultured them in vitro using the tissue explants adherent method. In this work we firstly tested the influence of low molecular weight fucoidan extracted from pheophicae cell wall on bidimensional cultured normal human osteoblasts behaviours. Secondly impregnation procedure with LMW fucoidan of bone biomaterial (Lubboc®) we explored in this bone extracellular matrix context its capabilities to support human osteoblastic behaviour in 3D culture. In bidimensionnal cultures we evidenced that: LMW fucoidan promotes human osteoblast proliferation, collagen type I expression and favours precocious alkaline phosphatase activity. The effects of 6-gingerol on proliferation, differentiation, and maturation of osteoblast-like MG-63 cells BJMBR

We investigated whether 6-gingerol affects the maturation and proliferation of osteoblast-like MG63 cells in vitro. Osteoblast-like MG63 cells were treated with 6-gingerol under control conditions, and experimental inflammation was induced by tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α). Expression of different osteogenic markers and cytokines was analyzed by real-time PCR, Western blotting, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. In addition, alkaline phosphatase (ALP) enzyme activity and biomineralization as markers for differentiation were measured. However, limited information is available on the expression, function and modulating mechanism of TG2 during osteoblast differentiation and mineralization.
